How-to: Upgrade or downgrade your plan

Upgrades take effect immediately with prorated billing. Downgrades are scheduled — they fire at the end of your current period, not on the click. This walks through both flows and what happens to your existing data when a downgrade lands.

1. Open Settings → Billing

Click your avatar (top-right) → Settings. Pick the Billing tab.

You’ll see your current plan, current period boundaries, and a Manage billing button. The Members tab is also here for Team-plan accounts but is unrelated to plan changes.

2. Click Manage billing

This opens the billing portal. The portal lists every public plan and their prices, with your current plan flagged as Current.

3. Pick the target plan

Click the plan you want to switch to. PlumPMM shows a confirmation modal that’s different depending on whether it’s an upgrade or a downgrade.

Upgrade

Switch to Solo Founder now? You’ll be charged a prorated $X for the remainder of this period. Your monthly quota resets immediately to the new tier’s amount.

Click Confirm to redirect to checkout. After payment lands:

  • Your plan flips to the new tier instantly
  • Quotas reset to the new tier’s caps (you don’t carry forward the old tier’s used count)
  • Tier-gated features (Fasttrak, Audit Compare, additional monitor cadences) unlock immediately
  • The next regular bill at period boundary is full price for the new tier

Downgrade

Schedule downgrade to Free at end of current period (Mar 15)? You’ll keep your Solo Founder features until then.

Click Confirm to schedule. No charge, no immediate change — just a flag on your subscription that fires when the current period ends.

What “scheduled downgrade” means in practice

Between scheduling and effective date:

  • You keep all current-tier features and quotas — no behavior change
  • The Billing tab shows a “Switching to Free on Mar 15” pill so you know it’s queued
  • You can revoke the scheduled downgrade any time before it fires (next section)

When the downgrade lands at period boundary:

  • Your plan flips to the lower tier
  • Tier-gated features become unavailable (Fasttrak hides, Audit Compare CTAs disappear)
  • Over-cap resources are handled gracefully — they’re not deleted:
    • Monitors past the new cap auto-pause with pause_reason: "plan_downgrade" (oldest excess paused first)
    • Projects, drafts, and pages past the new cap stay readable but you can’t create new ones until you’re back under cap (delete or upgrade)
    • Audit history past the new tier’s retention isn’t deleted; it’s just hidden until you re-upgrade

Cancel a pending downgrade

While a downgrade is scheduled, you’ll see Cancel scheduled change on the Billing tab. Click it to revoke — your plan stays where it is, no proration math, no reset.

This is the right escape hatch if your team grows mid-period and you no longer want to step down.

Downgrade to Free

Same flow as any downgrade — pick Free in the portal, confirm, wait until period boundary. The catch: Free has 0 projects and 0 drafts, so when the downgrade fires every project and draft you have becomes over-cap and read-only. You can re-upgrade later and they’ll be available again — nothing is deleted.
